What is Digital Evangelism?
Digital evangelism is sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people using digital means such as online articles, videos, smartphone apps, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, email and more! It’s essentially using relevant technology to reach people on their devices. The smartphone has become a powerful and effective tool in evangelism today.
Indopartners uses 9 websites, 20 Facebook pages, an Instagram account, a smartphone app, and a YouTube channel to upload evangelistic articles, infographics, and videos. Each piece of content shares the truth about Jesus and offers people a way to respond.
We have Indonesian staff who personally respond to each incoming message. They build a relationship with these contacts and share the gospel through a messaging tool.
Digital Evangelism can only work with your partnership. Whether it’s $2 or $200, every bit of your support helps reach the unreached people groups in Indonesia. Show your support today!
Why Digital Evangelism? Does It Really Work?
The very short answer is “It works!” There are many reasons why we believe using the internet is the most effective way to share the gospel with Indonesians in today’s world.
First, Indonesia is better connected and has more technological infrastructure than most people realize. There are over 180 million internet users, over 100 million Facebook users, and about 100 million smartphones. This ranks Indonesia in the top 10 of the world for these numbers. People are on their phones for over three hours every day consuming content.
Second, traditional workers are only able to share the gospel with so many people every year. In seven years, one worker and his team were able to distribute about 250,000 pieces of Christian literature. That’s quite a bit by most people’s standards!
However, using digital media is like fishing with a very large net. We can share the gospel with tens of thousands of people every day and more than 1,000,000 people in a month! We also build relationships with thousands of these people!
Third, other methods of sharing the gospel in Indonesia are becoming more difficult. Traditional foreign workers are finding it very difficult to get visas and be able to focus on ministry for the majority of their time. Radio and TV ministries are limited by the government–when they can broadcast and how much Christian material they can broadcast. But people have access to the internet from the privacy of their phones 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!
Fourth, digital evangelism is very inexpensive. You can share the gospel with an Indonesian for less than $0.02! That means for the annual cost of your average missionary family ($60,000), you can share the gospel with 3 million people!
